Incorporating the Business of Risk

FOCUS : Regional Insurance Economy

4. There has been much debate about the need for the mandatory training of entry level insurance staff in Bahrain. What do you see as the roles of the CBBBB and BIA moving this forward ?

We feel that the key to success for any company irrespective of size, is their investment in human capital. There are many universities in the local area that are offering extremely high-caliber graduates with a vast array of disciplines. We feel that the CBB and BIA should set precedence in their training procedures by setting up campus events prior to graduation and if possible help the graduates by offering certain insurance qualifications such as the ACII and the Diploma. It is also very important for the new energetic generation to be well versed both technically as well as managerially. In today’s fast-paced world, being a well trained ‘all-rounder’ could be the key to success.

5. What are your plans for 2010 ?

In 2010 we would like to outline our plans to introduce liability reinsurance to our product line. While we are always looking at other products such as Retakaful, Life and Medical reinsurance, it is important for us to focus and invest in the right place at the right time.
We would also like to position ourselves as a leader in the Regional markets as well as continue with our mission and vision of becoming the ‘regional Reinsurer of choice’ We are always strengthening our capability and human power to offer our clients the best possible service. With substantial capacities and strong synergies regionally we feel that the checks are in place for our next stage of success.
We are also constantly looking to expand our geographical scope, we are doing further analysis on certain parts of Africa and Central Asia to further develop our performance.
Finally we aim to grow at a rate of 20% on this year coupled with a sound bottom line underwriting result to complement those projections.

6. Reflecting on the Gulf Insurance Forum held in Bahrain, would you like to see more insurance conferences being held in the Kingdom? It is no secret that contrary to the lack of participation at some events in other parts of the region, every conference held in Bahrain seems to always be a hit and well attended. Why is that do you believe?

Bahrain has always been a distinguished entity in the financial services sector of the Middle East and we feel that it shall continue to be for the future. It is also very accessible from all countries and is considered Business Friendly. Many companies began here in Bahrain and therefore have built a loyalty towards it. Last but not least we shall not forget the grand welcome to all industries that the local government promotes when pushing for success.
